PBIS: Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
A proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.


PBIS is a pyramid model for promoting social and emotional development through nurturing and responsive relationships, high quality supportive environments, targeted social emotional supports and intensive interventions.  PBIS is a school wide initiative implemented throughout the Decorah Community School District.


West Side PBIS Mission Statement: To work collaboratively to help each child reach his/her greatest potential.  Teaching life skills to be respectful, responsible and safe.

*Develop positive relationships - Give children encouragement (look for the positives!)
*Embrace the power of play - Have fun with your child!
*Set clear rules and expectations and provide logical consequences
*Give children choices when appropriate
